About
Melissa was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. She attended Edinburgh College, graduating with an HND in Visual Communication (Illustration) and then attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, graduating with an Honours Degree in Animation in 2019. For her final year of DJCAD, she was A 2D character animator for the short film “Fox Fires”, directed by Keilidh Bradley. She then moved on to doing a variety of freelance work, including 2D animation assistant work on an upcoming television series, and animation for Australian band, The Beamish Brothers.
Her specialties are 2D Animation and Character Design, but she also has experience with Illustration, including comics.
She initially took inspiration to draw from watching many 2D animated films and TV series, and developed a strong interest in how these films were made through watching documentaries and special features. She was amazed by how her favourite cartoon characters started as pencil on paper, and figured that she could do that too considering how much paper she went through drawing. It got to a point where relatives had to make sure they had a huge supply of paper and pencils available whenever she came over to visit.
Melissa's other interests in include roller derby, gaming, alternative fashion, and horror movies.
